At the end of the day, most things come down to the talent you have. Wouldn’t it seem obvious that superior talent management skills are critical for leaders’ to have?
The reality is that one of the most misunderstood, under-skilled areas of opportunities for managers and, more broadly, organizations, is to understand what talent management is.
Talent management consists of the processes, practices, and activities that managers use in hiring people, determining their compensation, managing their job performance, training and developing them, and planning for replacing them should they leave or be promoted.
Integrated makes all the difference. Often these activities are accomplished separately, losing their power and effectiveness with the stakeholders not clearly understand how the activities relate to each other. Managers don’t need one more random template arriving in their email box to be completed that doesn’t add tremendous value. In the Bootcamp work, we throw all the pieces on the wall that have anything to do with employees and help you make sense of it all. It should be intuitive and obvious why and how you do things as it relates to employees, and we do an excellent job helping managers understand how it all fits.
Let us help by:
Being a better manager isn’t difficult, but just like anything that requires competence, it does require specific skills, knowledge, and discipline.
We have had the real honor of helping so many people around the world become better managers. Managing shouldn’t be a chore, but it often is because people don't have the right skills to do it well and get the results they need. When employees step into manager roles, they’re often given little direction and little time to learn the job, but they’re expected to be good managers from the get-go. This practice is common throughout the world. It’s no surprise then that time and time again, managers are rated poorly in surveys by their employees.
We are experts in management development. Our popular book, Demystifying Talent Management, serves as a strong foundation to provide clarity on the role of the manager as it relates to people.
We work with individuals, teams or organizations to situationally or systematically help managers be the powerful entity they are designed to be. Using a well-tested role profile of what makes a great manager, we help people understand where their strengths lie and where they can be a stronger manager using a manager assessment tool.
Top talent wins the game for organizations. It’s that simple. So, the trick then is to find and hire the right talent. It’s an incredible number of people who think they are good at hiring who are not and see talent acquisition simply as hiring.
We can assist in many ways. For some clients, we have helped determine the strengths and opportunities for their recruiting functions and helped them upgrade their talent. For other clients, we’ve actually assumed responsibility for running the function to improve it and then handed it back to a leader internally to run once improved. For other clients, we work with intact teams to improve their recruiting skills. We offer training and workshops on how to do talent acquisition well, and still, for other clients, we find and hire the candidates.
